At Windrush CofE Primary School, RE has a significant role for the development of pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. It promotes respect and open-mindedness towards others with different faiths and beliefs and encourages pupils to develop their sense of identity and belonging through self-awareness and reflection.

The principle aim of RE is to engage pupils in an inquiry approach where they can develop an understanding and appreciation for the expression of beliefs, cultural practices and influence of principal religions and worldviews in the local, national and wider global community.

We use the Oxfordshire Agreed Syllabus in collaboration with Discovery RE to ensure children are experiencing a rich curriculum. We study the six main religions across the school and encourage the children to understand their own opinions and those of others, and that these can be different.

We use artefacts, visits, videos and visitors to bring context to the curriculum. Our parents are heavily involved and are excited to share the religious and cultural experiences bringing rich diversity to our curriculum. This allows us to celebrate the community around us and everything they believe in.
